Using a template can really help you focus


I use my Ideal Customer Avatars whenever I create content for my audience - whether it’s website copy, blog posts, social media content, step-by-step guides, handbooks or instructions for operating systems. I know EXACTLY who I am talking to. I know whose problems I am solving, who I want to build relationships with and who I want to help in the next 12 months. And the chances are that it’s YOU!

Creating your Ideal Customer Avatar takes time


Building your perfect customer takes time. I recommend taking the following steps:


  • Aim to create 3-4 individual customer avatars.

  • Set aside 1-2 hours per ideal customer avatar.

  • Go back to your avatar after a few days and revisit each persona, tweak and adjust as your get to know the personality of your customer.

  • Make the time to name each avatar and find a photo which best represents them

  • Regularly re-read your avatar’s characteristics, values and pain points.

  • Print off your avatars and have them to hand so you can refer to them when working on your business.
